Polish Minister: New Government Believes in God and Fatherland

Poland's new foreign minister Witold Waszczykowski has rejected criticism of the European Commission of the government's ruling PiS party ("Law and Justice"). The previous government followed a certain "left policy concept."

Berlin (kath.net/KNA) Poland's new foreign minister Witold Waszczykowski has rejected criticism of the European Commission to the government of the ruling PiS party ("Law and Justice"). "We just want to heal our country of some diseases, so that it can recover again," the minister said of the controversial approach of his government against the state media in an interview with the "Bild" (Monday).

The previous government pursued a certain "left policy concept" said Waszczykowski. "When the world must automatically move only in the direction of a Marxist model - to a new mix of cultures and races, a world of cyclists and vegetarians who only focus on renewable energies and fight against any form of religion. This has nothing to do with traditional Polish values.

"The PiS party promotes a contrast that moves the majority of Poles: traditions, awareness of history, love of Fatherland, faith in God, in a normal family life between husband and wife. And these days we even prefer 'Merry Christmas', and not 'Happy Holidays' - because we still celebrate the birth of Jesus," said the Minister. This was possibly "a shock to our opponents 'who believed in progress:' whose 25 years of left and liberal indoctrination could not eliminate these traditional values. And that we have have even won the elections."

Tulsa Catholic Charities Rejects Government Funding in Tulsa

Edit: here's something you don't see every day.  They're rejecting government funding?
[Acton Institute] Acton President Rev. Robert A. Sirico and Research Director Samuel Gregg were interviewed for a LifeSiteNews.com article about a decision by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Tulsa to rely strictly on private donations for its work. Reporter Ben Johnson observed that the policy shift “stands in stark contrast to most of the benevolent institution’s other affiliates. Catholic Charities around the country received $1 billion from the government, approximately two-thirds of their funding.” Johnson:
Some critics believe only foregoing government funds altogether will prevent the state from coercing religious organizations to violate their faith. “What Catholic Charities of Tulsa is doing is showing the way forward for Catholics and other Christians who want to be faithful to the ancient Church’s age-old moral teachings, and who want to assist those in need without compromising the truth of the Gospel,” wrote Dr. Samuel Gregg, research director at the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty, in a statement e-mailed to LifeSiteNews.com.

Abortion Banned in Poland

EXCLUSIVE: Poland to vote on historic bill banning all abortions after massive grassroots campaign

WARSAW, Poland, June 28, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) -  After months of shielding the initiative from English media, organizers of a massive pro-life grassroots campaign in Poland have now told LifeSiteNews.com that Parliamentarians in the country are preparing to vote this week on an historic bill that would enshrine total protection for children in the womb from the moment of conception.
The organizers told LSN that they were worried that if the news broke in the English-speaking world, pro-abortion foreign powers would have poured money into the country to oppose their popular efforts.

Legislators in Poland's parliament will vote this week on a bill to ban all abortions in the country.
To bring the abortion ban before Parliament under Poland’s political system, the sponsors needed to collect 100,000 signatures within three months.  They got 600,000 in two weeks.
The bill, which comes up for first reading in the ‘Sejm’ (lower house) on Thursday, is the result of a huge nation-wide grassroots initiative launched by Warsaw’s PRO Foundation and supported by the country’s bishops and a newly-formed pro-life parliamentary committee.
